Kim Michelle Toft is a full time marine artist, author, illustrator and publisher of environmental children’s books depicting vibrant underwater worlds hand painted on silk.
Having lived her entire adult life on the beaches of Australia, their magnificent beauty is the source and inspiration of all her work. Kim made the move to become a full time silk painter back in 1990 and says that she still finds it both "challenging and rewarding".
Apart from featuring in many successful exhibitions, she's found silk to be an excellent medium for her children's book illustration. Her books reflect her love of beautiful underwater creatures and her desire to help the next generation understand the importance of their preservation.
Her first four children's books - One Less Fish, Neptune's Nursery, Turtle's Song and The World That We Want - have sold more than 100,000 copies in Australia, USA, New Zealand, South Africa, and South Korea and received national and international awards.
Kim regularly travels throughout Australia to talk, teach and workshop with students and admits "the unforgiving nature of silk keeps me fascinated and wanting to go further with the medium."
